my stream last Saturday was a great success! I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who watched and supported me. Let’s take a look at the result.

Texture atlases as saviors

As you can see, there are now materials in the level. The interesting thing is how you can see it: in an excellent frame rate! Combining textures into texture atlases has done the trick. Here you can see the structure of the material before and after processing.

Here is an excerpt from my stream of the material before processing. Behind each of the material layer blocks (starting with ML) are four textures for each material aspect (Diffuse, Normal, Displacement, Roughness). That’s 24 textures for the unfinished material alone, plus the two large textures for masking flowers and rocks!

As you can probably see, I now import only ten textures – one for each aspect of the material (Diffuse, Normal, Displacement, Roughness, see left) and the rest to mask the texture parts of the atlas.

Conclusion

With this small but very effective measure, the world in which Fluff will let off steam has come one step closer to realization! Many thanks to everyone who was there and watched my stream.
